I love using magnet letters with my students during small groups! Using these letters to work on building CVC words is such a great way for kiddos to build confidence as early readers. These CVC spinners are the perfect game to keep students engaged while they work on CVC words. Keep reading to learn more about this fun freebie!
I am a huge fan of using new and creative phonics centers for students (Grab my phonics centers bundle here!)
These CVC Spinners are just another fun phonics activity that I have found to help my students work on CVC words!
(Grab the full pack here!)
To set up these spinners in your classroom all that you need are the supplies below: magnet letters, the spinner cards (laminated is best), paper clips, and a pencil.
I like to keep 2 sets of magnet letters in a small container like this for students to use when we work with letters. Each student gets his or her own container and then keeps the letters on a plate while they are working with the letters. Both the little containers and the plastic plates are from target.
To play, students choose a card to work on. Then, the student places the tip of the pencil in the middle of the spinner with a paper clip around the tip. Then, the student "flicks" the paper clip with their finger. Whichever word that it lands on is the word that the student must spell with letters!
A recording sheet is also included for students to write each CVC word on after they spell it on their spinner card. Using the recording sheet helps kiddos to be able to keep track of which words they have spelled and which ones they still need to land on!
